University of Groningen OMPT Requirements: What's Confirmed So Far

The University of Groningen (RUG) accepts OMPT as one entrance-exam route for several of its quantitative bachelor's programs, with a clearly published attempt-limit policy — though, as with a couple of other universities in this series, we want to be upfront about which details are confirmed and which aren't yet.

Programs known to accept OMPT as an entrance-exam option

Computing Science, Applied Mathematics, and Physics are among the RUG bachelor's programs that accept OMPT as an entrance exam route for applicants who need to demonstrate their math level, per the university's own math-deficiency and entrance-exam admissions page.

Attempt limits: confirmed

RUG's published policy allows a maximum of two attempts per year for most applicants, rising to three attempts for pre-master's applicants — one of the more specific, clearly stated attempt-limit policies we found in this research.

Variant and minimum score: not yet confirmed

Unlike Radboud University, which publishes a full variant-to-program mapping with exact percentages, RUG's admissions page we were able to fetch did not specify which exact OMPT variant (OMPT-A, OMPT-D, etc.) or minimum score applies to each individual program. Rather than estimate, we're flagging this clearly: if you're applying to one of the RUG programs above, contact the program's admissions office or check your specific program's own entry-requirements page for the exact variant and score before building your preparation plan around a specific target.

How to prepare while this detail is unconfirmed

Even without a confirmed exact variant and score, the underlying math topics tested across OMPT variants overlap heavily — algebra, functions, differentiation, integration, and basic probability — so a broad, full-range preparation is a reasonable starting point while you confirm the exact target. Once you have the confirmed variant and score from RUG directly, you can narrow your final preparation phase specifically toward that difficulty level.

Making the most of the two-attempts-per-year (or three, for pre-master's) limit

As with VU Amsterdam's similar policy, we'd recommend treating a private, full-length timed mock exam as your real "first attempt" diagnostic, so that your official first attempt at RUG is already a well-prepared one rather than an exploratory one.
